What is the Silver Pines story about?

Silver Pines is about private investigator Red Walker, sent to a half-abandoned town to track down Eddie Velvet, a musician who has vanished. The official description calls it a job that turns into "a strange and nightmarish descent beyond his control."

The payphone call outside the diner asking Did you find Eddie Velvet?
The first call sets the job: find Eddie Velvet.

The game opens at the Miner Diner with a phone call: "Did you find him, detective? Did you find Eddie Velvet?" Walker has only just arrived. A radio broadcast warns of an evacuation order, and the few people left say a big storm is coming, which is why the town is nearly empty.

Who is Eddie Velvet in Silver Pines?

Eddie Velvet is the missing musician Walker is paid to find. His dossier lists him as age 25 to 35, occupation musician, criminal record unknown, residence unknown.

Walker's own file on Eddie is thin, with most fields unknown.

The first solid lead is the Crimson Bear Motel. Its guest ledger shows guest number 39431, Eddie Velvet, Grizzly Suite, which is why the silver pines motel chapter revolves around getting into that suite.

The ledger confirms Eddie stayed in the Grizzly Suite.

What is the Eddie Velvet song in Silver Pines?

The song you keep hearing is Eddie's own, and its hook line is "I miss you, baby." In the Rabbit Hole vision Walker watches Eddie perform it on stage.

The lyrics tie straight into the town's landmarks: "a ride to the stars" is the same phrase as the cable car poster, "Journey to the Stars," and the achievement for riding it is called "Take the 'Ride to the Stars'." Walker later tells his client he saw Eddie at a bar "with a girl," which is the first hint of Alice.

Who is Alice Baker and what happened to her?

Alice Baker is the girl seen with Eddie, and she is dead: her body floats in the water in Downtown, where you find the second Gold Ring.

Eddie Velvet's taped interview about Alice Baker
The interview tape is where Alice's name first comes up directly.

The police interview tape with Eddie lays out the accusation. Asked about Alice, Eddie calls her "that sweet girl" with "good taste in music" and dodges the question of a relationship. The interviewer answers: "The last time anyone saw Alice alive was when you took her up to the peak."

The game does not resolve it. When Walker later asks at the station whether Eddie killed her, the reply is: "Maybe he did. Maybe he didn't. Who gives a..." Treat the accusation as the town's version of events, not a confirmed fact.

What happens with Deputy Roberts and the sheriff?

Deputy Roberts strings Walker along and then turns on him. At the station he admits, "Bad news, detective. Eddie's not here," despite having implied otherwise, and the fight that follows is the Killer Frequency boss.

Roberts admits Eddie was never locked up here.

The full route through the station, including the interview tape, is in silver pines sheriff's office.

Who are the Burned Man and the bad little man?

The Burned Man is the survivor in the Outskirts who burned his belongings to be rid of someone. He tells Walker, "Can you smell it? The smoke. I burned it all... It was the only way to make him leave me."

Another survivor describes "the bad little man" who bit them and is "coming for you just like he came for that crowd." The game leaves both figures unexplained, but the Burned Man matters mechanically: he is the one who asks you to burn your Mementos for the Live ending.

How do the Silver Pines endings explain the story?

Each ending is Walker's answer to the case, and the official achievement descriptions name them plainly.

EndingAchievement descriptionWhat Walker does
LeaveComplete the contract: Kill Eddie VelvetShoots Eddie, says "Sorry Eddie. There was no other way...", and wakes outside the diner
LiveBurn it allLets Eddie go and burns all 25 Mementos in the Shack furnace
RestReturn to the Rabbit HoleLets Eddie go, brings both Gold Rings to the Rabbit Hole and faces the secret boss

Leave is the contract as written. Live mirrors the Burned Man: getting rid of everything Walker has carried. Rest uses the two Gold Rings, one from the diner ring box and one from Alice's body, to return to where the visions began. Step-by-step requirements are on silver pines endings, and the related unlocks are on silver pines achievements.
